Origin Story

The summer of 2012, I had a terrible boss who was toxic and unsupportive. It was a miserable time in my career. I needed a change yet as a working mother I was too scared to rock the boat. I didn’t want to trigger financial instability for my family, and I still had so much passion for work. How could I possibly navigate?

Towards the end of one of my daily commutes, I remember passing the water tower in my small suburban neighborhood and I said, “Sheila, you need a change. You got to be brave. Get focused. You’re in Marketing for God’s sake! So, just come up with a campaign to improve your situation, in fact, name it so that you can visualize a better future and apply all your creative genius toward intentional change. You got this! And in that moment, Operation Butterfly popped into my head! Yes! Operation Butterfly that’s it! And a true metamorphosis was just the scale of change I needed in that moment.

As I continued to navigate the different iterations in corporate America, in my spare time, I worked on building the wings for the Operation Butterfly construct and in 2014, I created the website Operation Butterfly.net as a place to share inspiration through inspiring content. I wrote weekly heart-felt blogs and posted them on my website, and over the years that followed, the website reflected the ongoing metamorphosis I experienced - Marketing Consulting and Professional Career Coaching. As I continued to lean deeply into what felt right for me, THIS incredible moment arrived, and the Operation Butterfly Journal was born.

Summer of 2025 – a new and more purposeful Operation Butterfly emerged and were grounded in what I call the W.A.R.M.T.H™ principles - Worth, Authenticity, Resilience, Moxie, Tenacity and Hope. The W.A.R.M.T.H™ principles have become like amber lights cutting through the fog to crystalize the way forward.

Clarity and meaning have enabled me to better articulate Operation Butterfly into a fullness that now embodies content, insights, and tools intended to encourage others to reflect, express gratitude, demonstrate acts of kindness and celebrate their uniqueness. Realness breathed peace and as I’ve exhaled, more access to what lies within has been released so that I can share some of the goodness with you.

An evening summer boat ride reveals a butterfly. Inspiration is everywhere.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

I am a butterfly. I am a caterpillar. And, I cherish both.
